Corned beef hash recipe! tater hash, tin of corned beef chopped

Corned beef hash recipe. I know there are a lot of variations of corned beef hash (or tater hash as we call it) but where I am it's like a stew. 1 tin of corned beef chopped £2 Potatoes peeled and chopped 50p Carrots peeled and chopped 20p 1 onion diced 15p Couple of beef oxo cubes 20p Water to almost cover  (How many potatoes and carrots depend on how many you want to feed etc) Chuck it all in the slow cooker on high for 4 hours ish until veg is soft or chuck it all in a pan and boil on the hob for 30mins or so. Serve with pickled red cabbage (or beetroot) and crusty bread 😋 This cost me around £3 (not including cabbage and bread) and will serve 5-6 people so 50-60p a portion. *tip- if it's too watery add cornflour or a sprinkle of instant mash.*

STICKY TOFFEE MUFFINS RECIPE! tops with warmed Maple syrup for sticky glaze

Looking through my food store cupboard I came across a box of Eat Me Pitted Dates. Still in tact seal, no signs of mould, no bad smell. What to make?? STICKY TOFFEE MUFFINS RECIPE Weigh out 3 large eggs into a bowl. (180g) Match weigh Self raising flour. Brown sugar. Soft butter Dates. Preheat oven to 180⁰C  Place all but dates in a roomy bowl and beat to a soft mixture. Chop up small the Dates, (minced mine) Add to mixture and using a soft spatula combine. Line a 12 hole deep muffin tray with muffin cases. Divide the mixture amongst the 12 muffin cases. ( I used an ice cream scoup each case got approx 75g or 2/3rds full. Bake on middle shelf for 26 minutes. Leave in the tin for 5 minutes.  Remove and cool on a wire rack. I like to brush the tops with warmed Maple syrup to give a sticky glaze).

Apple and Blackberry pies recipe! Almond sweet pastry secret

Apple and Blackberry pies recipe - The apples gifted from a neighbour, and the blackberries picked on a dog walk. Stewed the 2 apples last evening, popped the blackberries in the hot apple, stirred in a teaspoon of sugar, and cornflour, and left it covered in the fridge overnight. Almond sweet pastry knocked up this morning. In the oven 200⁰C for 15 minutes. That's 15p of electricity plus pastry, sugar, cornflour, a rough estimate would make each pie approx 5p each result. They look yummy 😋.

Snack boxes to limit kids snacks, in-between meals , home, school

Snack boxes to limit kids snacks..  each day when my kids get home from school they have a snack box waiting.  They can eat as much of this as they want in-between meals but it has to last them until bed time so once their snack are gone they are not allowed any more. Respectfully these can be made cheaper (and healthier). But each to their own. Pics are for ideas. lv been doing this for a few weeks now as I was sick of the constant I want then forgetting what they already had eaten (they work together to confuse me so i forget 😅) It's really helped in our house. On a weekend they know it's there and make it last throughout the day cos once it's gone that's it 😁

Making lunchbox cakes instead of buying them, homemade recipe

Im going to be making more lunchbox cakes etc instead of buying them! Ill chuck them in the oven on a Sun with the roast, to make the most of having the oven on. Im using my Bero book as I love the recipes, simple ingredients, no fuss, & usualy fairly quick. Ive just made some cupcakes, white choc chip, dark choc chip, & a bakewell inspired batch too (for home). Ive got a couple written down for next wk, one is chocolate & pistachio marble cake, I really want to try it but my kids school is a nut free school due to allergies.  Is there anything I can replace the pistachios with?! Or am I best just making it for home? X.

Lo curry sauce recipe! cooked up a bag of tiny potatoes to fill my oven

Recipe - I used lo curry sauce - from a jar that was in the freezer with a chicken breast, rice and naan bread for dinner. I baked a strawberry and a chocolate loaf cake. I really feel for people who have to buy Gluten Free food - it is so expensive and not a lot of choice. I was asked to pop into our local Asd. last week to buy cake for someone who was GF and had come along for the first time to our Salvation Army lunch.  I have had a go at baking a GF cake for tomorrow but I didn't have any GF flour - found a recipe that uses custard powder. Hubby and I will taste test before I give it to anyone else. I plan to buy some GF flour when I next shop. I also cooked up a bag of tiny potatoes to fill my oven - which won't be switched on until Friday now.

Cheap meal recipe! Fed 5 with plenty leftover, served with a bit of bread and butter

Recipe - The before shopping dinners where you make do with being out of everything 😂 turned out nice, hubby and kids have requested it again. 4 teeny potatoes 1/2 an onion Small bag of carrots 1/2 bag frozen peas 1/2 small cream cheese 1 can condensed cream of chicken soup Little bit of milk 3 chicken breasts Bit of basil, oregano, salt and pepper. Not sure on exact cost but it was definitely a cheap meal. Fed 5 with plenty leftover, served with a bit of bread and butter. I boiled the potatoes and diced onion together with the spiced, then blended it with a bit of milk. I boiled the carrots and peas, diced and cooked the chicken. Then I mixed it all in a big pot with the condensed chicken soup, cream cheese and a bit of milk to desired thickness.

Make-your-own pasta sauce (recipe) / food waste / and getting veg into kids

Recipe - Hope this is helpful for make-your-own pasta sauce / food waste / and getting veg into kids. Did my food shop today. At the bottom of the fridge drawer were bits of veg definitely beyond their best and floppy. So I chopped into smallish pieces - 2 carrots, 1 courgette, 1 pepper, 3 small sticks of celery, 3/4 red onion (other 1/4 going soft) mixed with a bit of oil, plus salt and pepper, added 3 garlic cloves in their skins and roasted for about 20 mins till soft and getting darker round the edges. Then I squeezed the garlic out of its skin and blitzed it with 1 tin of toms and 1 carton of passata plus a sprinkle of dried mix herbs. It’s made just over 1.5 litres of sauce which I’ve put in bags for the freezer - 4 generous portions in each. It’s thicker than I usually have so think you could add another tin or carton to loosen it and stretch it even further-I’ll do that when I use.

Mild Chicken Curry recipe - Cheap and simple to make, good cheap option

Recipe - I had a tooth out this morning so knew tea would be quick and my son wanted curry and rice, had this in the cupboard from lidl it was really cheap, can't find the receipt for exact price, but I will be buying again. My son said it tastes like the curry he has in school which he loves. Made some rice and a mini naan bread. Cheap and simple to make. Tinned meals like this are a good cheap option in all fairness, worth having a few options in for when cooking is not possible.

McDonalds end-of-the-week kids treat costing around £30! Happy meal recipe

I used to get the kids a McDonald's on a Friday as an end-of-the-week treat. However, some weeks it was costing around £30. I got some picnic boxes (10 for £3.50 = 35p each - there's a huge variety of designs available) from Amazon and some paper bags (50 for £3.65 = 7p each). Recipe - Then I made my own chicken nuggets (£1.99 for 15 = 13p each/39p per portion) and chips (skin-on-fries in this case but any chips will do, £1 = 25p per portion). I added a Fruit Shoot from Morrisons (15 for £3.75 = 25p each). Altogether with the boxes, paper bags, etc it cost £1.31 per child or £3.93 total. As additional extras I added a small toy each (which I already had) and a sachet of ketchup (50 for £7.24 = 14p each). The kids really enjoyed it and ate the lot! Being able to have a "Fakeaway" for less than a fiver once a week makes a huge difference to our budget. Yes, it takes a little more work and there is the cost of fuel for cooking it to consider, but that's nothing compa

How to make a full chicken stretch recipes? yummy especially the roast and sarni

Recipe - How far does everyone make a full chicken stretch? And what are your go to meals? There is just me and my daughter at home so from a large chicken we got 2 roasts, 4 portions of curry in my sc, 4 portions of pasta bake and a chicken and stuffing sandwich for me for lunch 😁 Large chicken was £4.50 in morrisons, and I have got 11 meals from it 😊 Everything else I had in, frozen veg, sweetcorn, pasta, a jar of pasta bake sauce, slow cooker curry sauce, tinned tomatoes etc, so I'm not 100% how much each meal cost but I'm guessing not much. You could get an extra meal by cooking the carcass and making soup from the stock.

£3.33 for chicken (frozen from a 3 for 10 deal last month), 92p for a fajitas kit on clearance

3.33 for chicken (frozen from a 3 for 10 deal last month) 92p for a fajitas kit on clearance! Served with a salad ( got the veg on clearance too!) and some grated cheese. We had never tried this kit but it was delicious and we will definitely buy it again!

Got 2 packs of cooking bacon in £l from Asda! make egg & bacon pie

Filled oven - did extra potatoes + cooked a pack of Bratwurst sausages - they will go in freezer and then just be warmed in mw.

£2 birthday cake, cheaper than you imagined - grapes, blueberries and strawberries

So it's my sons birthday tomorrow and he hates cake (texture) so although it's definitely not healthy he deserves to be spoilt. Anyway this cost around £2 to make which is way cheaper than I imagined and I'm sure he will love it 💙.  I might copy it for my husband's birthday he loves sweets & is a big kid! Sometime, I also used a watermelon to carve the cake and then grapes, blueberries and strawberries to decorate.

HOMEMADE KEBAB MEAT Recipe! 500g lamb finely minced, 2 tsp garlic granules

Homemade Kebab Meat Recipe. During lockdown, we all found ourselves trying out new recipes, and this homemade kebab meat was one of those delightful experiments inspired by a TV chef program. Give it a try and enjoy the authentic flavors of a homemade kebab! Ingredients: 500g lamb, finely minced 2 tsp garlic granules 1 tsp ground black pepper 1 tsp ground sea salt 1 tsp dried oregano 1 tsp paprika 1 tsp chilli powder 1 large egg Vegetable oil Instructions: Whisk the egg in a bowl. In a roomy bowl, combine the minced lamb, garlic granules, black pepper, sea salt, dried oregano, paprika, chilli powder, and the whisked egg. Use your hands to bring everything together, kneading the mixture for about 10 minutes. Place the meat paste onto a large sheet of cling wrap and roll it into a thick sausage shape. Twist each end of the cling wrap tightly to form a smooth cylindrical shape. Chill the wrapped meat in the refrigerator for 1 hour. Preheat the oven to 200°C. Remove the meat from the chil

Completely homemade bramley apples custard! mixed plain flour with butter, sugar

Our school was giving away some bramley apples, so it only meant one of two things! (other option was apple pie but I wanted something quickish). The custard is completely homemade, as I didn't have any birds or instant in.. my first time making it and I didn't have any cornflour in so had to try and thicken it without haha, I didn't use measurements as I eyeballed it but for the crumble filling I peeled and sliced up an apple, sprinkled some sugar and cinnamon on it. The topping I mixed plain flour with butter, sugar and a bit more cinnamon..  The custard I used 350ml milk, 3 egg yolks, sugar and vanilla extract.. you're best off looking up the technique for that as there are so many different recipes x. all in all not bad for a free pudding!

Steak n kidney pies recipe! Filling done in Pressure cooker, cut up meat, kidney, onions

Recipe - Made steak n kidney pies . Filling done in Pressure cooker last evening, cut up meat, kidney, onions, and mushrooms, plus a beef gel stockpot, then allowed to go cold overnight in cooker. Shortcrust pastry this morning. Thought I'd use my Hairy Bikers pie maker instead of the oven. It comes with its own double cutter. Rolled the pastry out, cut 2 bases, and 2 lids, and 2 leaf decs Lined the pie maker base. Spooned in the filling. Lid on. Quick brush of egg. Lid sealed. Power on........bingo 2 pies in 10-12 minutes no soggy bottoms. The monitor on the Smart meter showed 12p/hr nothing else on in the place, so I reckon on as they were in for 12 minutes that works out at 2-3p for 2 pies cooking, instead of 30 minutes in the oven at 60p/hr on monitor or 30p for 2 pies. I know I could fill the oven and usually do but not today...... Every little saves......

Cheap and savvy meal recipe, using the Asda essential range

Recipe - So another cheap and savvy meal using the Asda essential range 🥰🥰 Total cost if portion £3.88 This served my family of four 97p a meal 🥰 And enough chicken left over for a curry tomorrow.  Dice 2 large onions or 4 small chunky, and potatoes I used 5 largest in the pack cut to four or five. And layered at the bottom of the slower cooker pot, added 150ml boiling water. Season with salt and pepper. Pull the skin away from chicken, and add a tablespoon of butter and spread on the meat add seasoning as desired, I used rosemary pepper and salt pull back over skin to keep juices in.  Set slower cooker on medium for four hours then hour half on high.  Add portion of veg and some Yorkshires and voila 😍😍 Use the juice as a gravy, thicken with a table spoon of granules if desired. Cheap but more importantly a warm hearty meal. For under £1 each for four people.

Stuffed crust cheese pizza recipe, crust was brushed with garlic butter - cheaper than ordering

Recipe - I’m not totally sure on the cost as it was mostly ingredients we already had (flour, yeast, salt, water, olive oil). I used half a large brick of cheese so a little less than $5 of cheese and 1 can of pasta sauce which was $1. It fed 5 (3 adults and 2 kids) with a couple slices to spare. The recipe did say it makes 2 pizzas but I just made one really big one. Definitely cheaper than ordering in! And it went over so well.
